Historical Revisionism

In a letter to today's Weekend Australian, Alan Anderson states:

WE went to war not because we knew Saddam Hussein had WMDs, but because we didn't know. His obfuscations gave us good reason to believe he was hiding something. He was, although his limited WMD programs were largely inactive and below expectations.

That's weird. I thought that we knew the WMD were "around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat".
